Me in a nutshell

I grew up in a small village in the Netherlands and moved to London in 2002 to expand my horizons. I’d been a senior manager in the hospitality sector for 15 years before I started my psychotherapy degree, which allows me to help people in a different, more tangible way.

What most fascinates me about my work...

It works! The approach I use is easy to understand and can give clients great insight into their blind spots. It focuses on communication within self and with others. And when you bring this information into awareness, it can be changed and worked through.

What has influenced me most as a therapist...

Learning to lean on my support network. Without the people around me I would not be where I am today. To get the help I needed, I had to ask for that help, to be open and honest, to communicate. Everybody is and can be vulnerable. Reaching out is so important.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy looks at how our early experiences shape our present lives. Its main insight is that problems often arise from painful childhood experiences that have been pushed down to the unconscious because they may be too painful for the conscious mind to process. These repressed emotions don’t go away but resurface to haunt our current relationships. The goal of therapy is to examine our current challenges at their roots, to make the unconscious conscious so we can understand ourselves and stop replaying past conflicts into the present.

Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis sees psychological problems as the products of early programming - our 'life script', which includes all the messages, the dos and don'ts, the shoulds and oughts, that we received and internalised as children and that continue to affect how we think, feel and behave as adults. In TA, there are three parts to our personality - the Parent, the Adult and the Child - that are often in conflict. Therapy's goal is to make us aware of the masks we wear and the scripts we follow in order to challenge and change our dysfunctional, recurring, unconscious patterns.
